PR Reflection, Public Relations

This Just In: Reflection Week 12

Tonight in class we practiced making our own press releases.  Professor Childs split us into groups and had us all write a press release.  The topic could be about a real or fictional event and he gave us all about 20 minutes to complete the task.  As usual, Maisie and I worked on a press release for an actual event, which is the Southeastern University Fire vs. the Lakeland Flying Tigers baseball game that is coming up on April 4.  Here is the actual press release we wrote up:

SOUTHEASTERN FIRE TAKE ON FLYING TIGERS APRIL 4

LAKELAND, FL., March 29, 2012—“Today’s players, tomorrow’s stars.”  On Wednesday, April 4, the Southeastern University Fire baseball team will take on the Detroit Tigers’ single-A affiliate, the Lakeland Flying Tigers.  The game will start at 6pm at Joker Marchant Stadium, in Lakeland, FL.  Last year the Fire had the Flying Tigers on the ropes for the first 5 innings, leading 2-1 before the Flying Tigers clawed their way back to win, 8-2.

“I’m so excited,” says Fire Athletic Director Duane Aagaard. “It’s such an honor and a great opportunity for our baseball team to play against paid professionals for a night.”

The Fire have jumped out to a 22-16 so far this year and the Flying Tigers are 28-40.  Tickets are available on the Southeastern campus for $2 and $10 for a ticket plus a tshirt.  “You couldn’t find a better bargain in town!  A shirt and a baseball game?  Count me in,” said SEU student Maisie Katterhenry.

You can find Joker Marchant Stadium by going to 2301 Lakeland Hills Boulevard in Lakeland.  For more information call 555-6565 or email seu@seu.edu.

Tweet:  Come watch the @seuniversity baseball team take on the @LkdFlyingTigers Apr 4 at Joker Marchant Stadium at 6pm! Check press release for details.

Obviously the tweet isn’t part of the press release.  Prof. Childs had us write up a tweet that would correspond with the event/press release.  But this is a real event that is happening next Wednesday; if you live in the Lakeland area I would encourage you to come on out!  Yours truly will be handling all the online statistics for both teams.
